A new blood movie from Mel Gibson, said most of my friends. I believed them and made it rest for a while. But I have watched it now, and I must say it was a good move. Yes it is full of blood and contains many violent scenes, but it just shows what was life like in the old days of Mayan civilization.
The movie shows how there were small tribes that knew nothing of great civilization that was living near by. There were hunters and lived with the forest. They were simple men.
And that is where the plot begins. The Mayan civilization was breaking apart. There was many sickness and illness. Not only by men but also on animals and crops. They didn't know what to do but to worship their goods and sacrifice as many people as they could hunt from forest tribes. And the story is about a man, Jaguars paw, who's village was slaughtered by Mayan and many men were brought to be sacrificed to the god of sun. But when Jaguars paw was on the edge of life. There was an eclipse of sun. And the shaman said that there was enough killing.
The rest of the men should be made free, but hunters wanted to have some fun with them and played an "escape game". In this "game" the commanders sun was killed by Jaguars paw and they pursued him through the forest, over the waterfall until he remembered what his father told hi him. "Do not be afraid" And that is when he became the predator and all the others were his pray. He killed them one by one, because he knew his forest and he knew what to do and how to hunt. And that is why he lived.
In the end there are white men coming and the story of Jaguar's paw fades away.
I must say that it was a good move for me.
